I am extremely excited to begin another great school year at ! For those returning students and parents/guardians, I am glad that you are back. We will “hit the ground running” with our focus on academic and social/emotional learning. For those of you who are new to our “Watts Family”, welcome aboard. I am happy you are here, and am confident that you will love your new school! There is one notable change to our schedule, as 5th Grade will now be self-contained, just like our 3rd and 4th Grades. We believe this change will help spark even higher levels of academic and social-emotional growth! We are proud of the hard work of our students, the dedication of our amazing staff, and the involvement of our parents and guardians. We cannot be successful without a partnership involving all three groups, and the key to a successful partnership is open communication. Research shows that when schools and families effectively communicate, and work together as partners, student achievement is higher. There are many opportunities to get involved in our school, such as volunteering for classroom activities and field trips, participating in school functions, becoming a PTA member (first meeting is on 10/2), and most importantly, providing a supportive environment for learning at home. Please, become an active member of the “Watts Family” and help us with our quest for 100% of our students learning, growing, and achieving! Learning begins with your child being here and on-time. Please remember to send your children to school because EVERY DAY COUNTS! If your child is sick, please send in a doctor’s note within 30 days of the absence. PLEASE NOTE, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT ADVANCE TO THE NEXT GRADE IF MORE THAN 15 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES ARE ACCRUED! Speaking of important dates, here are a few for you to mark on your calendars: 3rd Grade Orientation on 8/28, the first day of school (FULL DAY) is 9/4, Back to School Night on 9/18, Early Dismissal (12:20) for Staff In-Service on 9/26, and Parent-Teacher Conferences on 11/15, 11/18, & 11/19. We will be sending home calendars, with these dates and more, to help keep you organized. The event will take place at the on Tuesday, August 29th from 5 PM to 7 PM. If you have ever attended one of our Family Fun Nights, then you know that we will have food, music, games, and lots of important school information for the 2017-18 school year! If you have not been to a Family Fun Night, then now is the time to get involved. This summer, our theme is The Boardwalk. We will be bringing a taste of the iconic Jersey Shore’s vacation destination to Wilbur Watts, as we transition from summer to school. We will have over two dozen Boardwalk-style games, and plenty of prizes to win. In addition, you can enter our silent auction to win gift cards to local businesses, back packs stuffed with school supplies, and even a new Chromebook!
